Samantha’s Hunting Story
I got into hunting at first as a way to connect more with my then boyfriend by sharing our love for the outdoors. I grew up shooting guns and occassionally getting taken along with my dad when turkey hunting, so I thought it would be an easy way to show interest in one of his hobbies. Over the past 3 years and as that boyfriend turned into my husband, it became something that we are both passionate about and that we look forward to all year long. It has become a way for us to not only spend time together but to really connect with one another and share in the excitement and adrenaline rushes that come along with hunting. He has told me many times before that there hasn’t been a more exciting moment for him than when he saw me shoot my first buck. It was something that has connected us and allowed us to explore so many amazing countrysides along the way.
Along with hunting came my love for weapons and the outdoors. I have been able to expand my knowledge greatly on different weapons and really expand my skillset when it comes to both rifle and archery seasons. I have been able to learn more about the wildlife that surrounds us every day and of all the ways that humans really have an effect on our wildlife. I have become extremely passionate in the right to hunt and in turn feed our families, as well as critical to those that don’t have the same passion or appreciation for wildlife that most true hunters do. Above all, I have become an activist in encouraging other women I know to get more involved with nature, learn to shoot guns to know how to protect themselves, and really to just get out and enjoy the world that surrounds us. This definitely is not just a man’s sport.
Hunting has taught me a type of patience and perserverance that I never knew I needed. It has taught me how to learn from nature and also how to identify countless different types of scat 😉 haha I am lucky enough to live in a part of the country where I can partake in outdoor activities nearly all year long and start scouting way before season begins. This has become one of our most exciting activities to do with one another and a major part of our lives. I couldn’t imagine enjoying any other activity like I do hunting and wouldn’t change a single thing about being a huntress. I’m honored to be a part of a group like Queens of Camo where so many women can appreciate the same things that I enjoy and help to make a good name for hunters.
Keep empowering women hunters!
