Sherri’s Corner – Hard Water Happiness
Patience is definitely an asset if ice fishing is one of your hobbies! January 2nd 2016 was the first day I got out ice fishing this year (Not bad for it only being 2 days in!) The weather was perfect with full sun and a slight breeze. I went with 3 friends who I don’t get to see very often which was nice to catch up, have some laughs and be able to spend the day telling stories and relaxing.
I put a minnow on a completely random hook with black and silver accents on it that I had absolutely NO luck with all summer, but I figured I would give it a whirl that day and see what happened. 5.5 hours in to the day, at 4:30 PM – when we were actually considering packing up for the day, the end of my rod did a nose dive and I had the first Northern Pike of the day (and the year for that matter!)
Well, we couldn’t very well pack up if the fish were going to start biting now!! I got 2 more bites in the next hour and a half but wasn’t able to set my hook on either fish. At that time we decided to head home. Although it would have been nice to have a bit more fish action throughout the day, I will never complain about a day spent outdoors doing what I love!
