Tricky Two “Lady” Tree Stand

My friend, Timi, and one of my lady hunting buddies this fall asked if I wanted to come help her put up her two “lady” tree stand. The obvious answer was heck yes! I had never helped or even seen a stand go up yet, so I was more than interested and excited get to it. Timi lives, help with all the work, and hunts on a great piece of farm land right in the middle of gorgeous rolling hills. I savor the scenery anytime I drive down her way….which happens to be a lot since I’m photographing her wedding and just as important, that is where the local Cabela’s is.

After arriving and seeing that there is at least a 60 pound tree stand hanging out the back of her truck, I was grateful to hear that we were employing the muscles of her fiance as well for the job. We did a little off-roading through some of the property until we got to a nice little spot of woods sandwiched between two fields with great views. This two person ladder stand was one of three stands I think they have in the area and I’m hoping that we all have great luck there in the fall!

I knew there was prep to getting your hunting spots ready, but I really couldn’t guess just how much went into it. After pointing out some overgrown brush on one of the other stands that needed to be trimmed at some point, we got her fiance to clammer through a tight path with the stand assembled and hike it up the tree. Then we all took a position to hold and pull tight the tie-downs and support, there were some dicey moments of swaying and unease for her fiance when he was at the top of the stand securing it, but we all managed to get it up safely with no injuries. I think for peace of mind, he may add some additional tie downs before the hunting starts.

We plan to set aside a little more time to do additional trimming of the brush and trees, plus cut some lanes for the deer through the patch of woods between the fields. I was happy to see there was a strategy in place and it was cool to learn there was indeed a method to the madness. I am excited to get up in a stand with her and hopefully get our sights on some great deer! Next up, get my property situated with stands!
